MY LATEST CREATION!!!!

I finished this just the other day! Our project was to create a poster on a social issue and mine was gay rights.. yay for gay! My original sketch of this was much more complex, which my teacher made me quite apparent of, his only words.."simplify". So that's exactly what I did, hence the sexy man led and his fab stiletto, which is a warped men's dress shoe and a women's heel... cleverrr ;) lol I really liked the idea for my project, however I do wish I knew how to work better with illustrator before tackling this baby. Little by little.. simpler and simpler :))

Design Project #2

Our next design project dealt with the collaborating the idea of juxtaposition and social issues as a whole. My three issues were body image portrayed to us through the media, global warming and immigrant rights.

With the issue of body image, I created a "cookie cutter" idea of the ideal image, humorously modeled by the gingerbread men. I placed the cookie tray in to a kitchen scene I created to make it look pretty realistic. Then placed a model from a recent spread in Glamour magazine, campaigning the beauty of all shapes and sizes for women.

For global warming, my idea sparked in class

when my teacher began talking about the poor

polar bears and how their homes were practically

melting. So I thought, well where the heck would

they go if their homes really did become obsolete?..

they could end up in our own backyards! Using

humor once again, I placed this cute, over sized polar

bear in to a tiny baby pool. I really enjoyed the effect

of this juxtaposition. The little girl hosing the bear

down is comical, as well as the dog sitting in his plastic

igloo house.

I found a great picture in an old photography book on the culture of America. I thought how effective it would be if the billboard over the workers showed the first couple pages of the Constitution. So that's what I did! I roughed up the pages a bit to correlate with the texture of the photography, but it was pretty simple idea that the greater impact I wanted in the outcome.

Charcoal :))

We started using charcoal for the first time in drawing a few weeks ago. On the first day of working with the medium I got a really good handle on it.. yea it's messy.. but I like it! Thought I'd share one of my sketches with you cause I don't think I'll ever render a hat quite like this twice around lol

Digital Project #2

LOVE LOVE LOVED doing this project! Our objection was to take an influential event and create your own translation of this through use of photoshop and scanned images. I decide to do a general theme of "Letting Go". Previous blogs show my initial idea using a butterfly, however me and the butterfly really weren't getting along. So I decided that since my love of picture taking captures both the past and the present, I related the idea of letting go to meaning "recapturing the memory". We make and remake memories in places all the same but perhaps with different people; new friends, family etc. I believe that you will never forget,though you may wish for a dose of amnesia, but rather take it as a learning/ growing experience. I used a recent photograph of myself, the happiest I've seen myself in awhile, and played around with a few Polaroids and there ya go!! LET IT GO..whatever it may be, no it isn't easy, but after looking at this particular photograph and stepping outside of myself.. I'm on my way to creating a bigger, better me.. and that makes me happy :)

Design Project #1

I can not begin to describe how exxtreeemmeellyy happy I am that this project is complete! It took a lot of time (avg. 4 hrs each) and precision to pull this one off. The actual project was to translate a specific issue( given to us) through us of shape in the form of paper. The top image shows "handicapped" children. The straight lines, which could be interpreted as the family members of the disabled, act as a crutch for the rather literal depiction of the handicapped in a skewed line. It becomes a balancing act for all

parties involved, creating a very apparent tension

that could, in an instant clapse.

The second issue, shown on the right, is emergence of identity. My take on this issue became mostly about the different roads traveled to create a whole person; body, mind and soul. Pieces will get left behind other parts develop in to the ever changing you. There is constant room for improvement, hence the thin cut out in the final red circle, representing the most recent version of the person themselves.

I really enjoyed the thought and personal meaning that transcending in to this project. However!! This is a series of 15 and once again..

glad it is finally complete!

So backing up a little bit, this post is of my very first project from drawing class. Our assignment was to depict a literal interpretation of a fruit and veggie still life. I used about 6 or 7 different fruits and vegtables to create a still life "scene" if you will. I wish I could have spent more time really describing the shadows and line quality of the fruit because I think it lacks some realism. However, in my defense it is my VERY FIRST drawing in a legit drawing class, so I really wasn't too disappointed..it's fruity and I like it :)
